I just want to thank everyone for their input on “Unnatural” and I am glad most of you are enjoying it. I just wanted to explain a few new features of my site. As you can see, there are more options on the left now. You will also notice that if one of these pages listed has changed in the last week, when you hover the mouse over it, the time since it was updated will display in the page title. Also, you will see at the top of this screen a note that says when I last updated anything at all. I did this to help you notice right away whether or not something is different. Let me know if these features enhance your visit(s). 🙂

Oh and happy Bastille Day yesterday … ! 14 juillet

On the eve of the very exciting release date of my fifth album, I want to make a few comments on how I feel before my ecstasy gets tainted by commentary and criticism.

This album (Unnatural) feels to me to be my absolute best work. It is everything I ever imagined it to be, and I can’t believe I finally produced what I wanted in an album — completely. On all of my albums, it is plainly evident the type of music and the style of playing I was into at the time, but this album is more. For once, I can hear all of my influences directly culminating in each song.

I can tell where Rush has influenced me and where the Crash Test Dummies inspired me and where the hours of rock radio I have listened to have inspired me, where bassists and drummers and guitarists and songwriters have influenced me, where my friends and family have influenced me, as well as many other influences. I finally hear those influences directly and immediately instead of maybe not at all. I also hear the songs I mentioned in an earlier post. I have spent a lot of time recently deliberately remarking other peoples’ styles and methods of playing instruments and have incorporated them into my songs–not as deliberate plagiarism, but as a way of using tools to bringing out the best of my songs. It’s the same as the way a chef uses the right spices to make his salmon perfect, because on top of it all is my very strong nuance of musicianship. Finally, I think I have created an album with a deliberate sound and style.

Even further, for this I pulled out all the musical stops. I tried very hard to pump every bit of energy out of every instrument into every song that I could, and I think this is an album that rhythm guitarists, bassists, drummers, lyricists, and any musician can appreciate. The themes are in place, and the performances are striking, even though I am not a great vocalist. The lead guitar is where I finally let myself go in order to really show who I am as a guitarist, and for me it is breathtaking.

Lyrically, I have finally delivered the message I’ve been striving for while maintaining a contextual theme within the lyrics and the music–that theme being anthropomorphology and the human animal. It is very obvious to me, as well, the direct influences for me musically. Playing with people in person has inspired me to profound heights musically, and those influences are specifically evident.

So, with that, I am unleashing Unnatural on the world with the hope that everyone else can get even a little taste of the joy I derive from it. To this date, this is my definitive work, and I hope I can maintain this level of creativity for more albums to come. Everything about it is a culmination of who I am as an artist, and I hope you enjoy it. As of this moment, Unnatural is distributable. (Let’s assume I posted this at midnight.)

Finally an update on Unnatural:

I think the music that I have done on this album is absolutely unbelievable. The tempos on the songs are quite a bit faster than any of my previous stuff so I would venture that if people wanted to dance to these they could. Hell when I was recording the vocals I couldn’t help but move to most of them. I am extremely proud of the music. The vocals, however, are mediocre as usual (although they have their good qualities) and I think they detract from the music. But, as of this writing, I am getting used to them and might even eventually like them once I get all the volume issues settled to my satisfaction.

So, as far as the release date, all I have left to do is record “The End,” the instrumental last track, and it will be ready for everyone else to hear. I am pretty sure what I will do with it so chances are the album will be ready for another Tuesday release date. 🙂 I will post lofi tracks as soon as I can.

Yet another album, my obligatory “Self-Titled” album reaches my info page. In all my frenzy I had forgotten I had some songs written, and it just so happens they belong on the “emotional” album I talked about in an earlier entry. Anyway, the artwork for the cover is by far my most elaborate to date. I am just such a big fan of the gimp !

In other news … still no recordings, but I’ll be working on it soon. I have a lot of projects (including non-musical ones) going right now so it’s hard to really dedicate hoards of time to one or the other. Once all the recordings are done, they will be available here, just hang tight. It will be at least a month though so don’t get your panties in a knot. Ok, later. Oh and I want to give a shout out to the members of Unborn. Man you guys rock ! haha …

Well suddenly I am back underway in the production of my millions of albums. I think it all started with the recording of “The Abortion Prophecies.” The newest addition to my album list is “Philosophical Hiatus” which is intended to be a much lighter, more goofy album than my others. I get a lot of goofy ideas so maybe now I can export them.

I just recently began the recording phase of Unnatural, and I am really hoping to make it my best album so far musically, so it may take a while. Thinking it over, though, I think I have narrowed down my current musical influences for this album to the following four songs: “Rush – Subdivisions,” “Bad Company – Silver, Blue and Gold,” “Golden Earring – Twilight Zone,” and “The Police – Message In A Bottle.” If I can get these songs to that musical caliber, well then I will rock.

Also to update, I have done a few recording sessions with Unborn, and, as soon as I get my setup figured out (yeah I am always the one running behind), we will get some new tracks for them to pimp out. So, until next time.

There’s not much to say regarding my personal workings, but in a current session with Unborn we took a little fun time to record an impromptu album just for kicks. Their drummer, Justin, couldn’t hang around for the recordings, but, someone _philled_ in and, as it turns it, it may have been one of the epic recording sessions of all time. I compiled it into part of my albums section for this page because it is just cool–something a little less pedantic than my usual stuff, and a hell of a lot more fun.

Anyway, the album is titled “The Abortion Prophecies” and has six tracks. The songs are on the album in the order they were recorded, and they are all single takes–no practicing or rehearsing at all (as if that weren’t obvious.) We wrote and recorded the whole album in a little under an hour. If the lyrics and lo-fis aren’t up already, they will be soon. Enjoy.

I have uploaded information on two of the three (or more) albums I am working on. The first, “Unnatural,” is getting pretty close to the production phase. The second is “Sneaky Whisper” and is an instrumental album which is pretty much just getting really under way, although I have ideas for most of the songs. Any lyrics and song names I have done are posted, but this should be enough to keep everyone sated temporarily. 🙂

Ok fine I will admit a few of the projects I am working on. (No, none of them are even close to ready). I have an instrumental album under works, I have an album focusing on anthropomorphology that should shed some light on the human condition (but hell philosophers have been doing that for years and the human race continues to wander in the dark), and I have an album focusing more on emotional issues–something I do not generally express well. Contrary to that, however, some have really expressed excited sentiment to my “Endless Rain” track on Heaven.

Anyway, hopefully this will whet your appetite. I do hope to record soon, but honestly given where I am living currently and how things are set up I just don’t feel the necessary comfortableness I usually need when I record. Everything doesn’t feel intuitive, just very forced. But here I am, hoping. Wish me luck or something that means all will go well for me.

Amid dire requests for me to update my website, since I can’t seem to do it without strict coercion, I have uploaded lo-fi versions of Heaven and Hell for everyone to enjoy (or abhor). For my next albums, rather than write something specifically, I am writing songs at random with certain projects in mind. Once I have enough songs for an album that make sense together, I will start recording. This way, I am free to write any song without worrying about fitting it on an album, and I can maintain a greater musical continuity throughout the album when I do record it.

I will keep everyone posted (hopefully) with any major status changes. Also, I hope soon to actually put stuff on the other sections of this site that I have not yet done anything with. I still haven’t posted the picture of my newest guitar.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by. Perhaps soon there will be something worth your reading time written here.
