Periodical acoustic podcast: “Careless Whisper” by George Michael/Seether

Again, this time of year with the holidays, I really only had time to record one song this week, even though I keep saying I plan to do two!

I actually recorded this podcast as well as next week’s two days ago.

At any rate, the song for this week is “Careless Whisper” by George Michael/Seether.  My version is much closer to that of Seether, and, frankly, I don’t really do it justice, but I’m singing it in Town Crier, so I thought I’d offer the preview.

As usual: me on my acoustic, in my studio, no editing, recorded on Sony ICD-SX700, blah, blah, blah …

No Town Crier practice recordings this week …

Since we’ve now gotten reference recordings of all of our sets, we decided this week just to work on powering through sets.  We’re gearing up our fine tuning to get ready for our New Year’s gig, and we’re hoping to play a few gigs in early December as well (will post more details when it’s available).

We did, however, finally get a band photo, so I’ve posted that to the website (http://jeremytharp.com/towncrier/).

Also, all reference recordings for all 4 sets are now available at http://listapp.ciesurplus.com/jeremy_temp/

Enjoy!

Periodical acoustic podcast: Live’s “Lightning Crashes” and New from me: “The Thirst”

I’ve recently decided to up the ante on my podcasts by recording two songs: an original of mine and a cover.

This week for the cover I chose Live’s “Lightning Crashes” because we are playing it as the last song in set 4 in Town Crier.  I can’t say I do the song justice, but I think it is OK.

The other song will excite my avid followers — a sneak peak at my upcoming album “The Threshold of Omniscience.”  That’s right — I have enjoyed my recording so much that I felt it was a good choice for the original.

And, as usual, this is just me on my acoustic, in my studio, recorded on my Sony ICD-SX700 digital voice recorder, no modifications other than trimming at the beginning and end.

  • Remedy (Seether)
  • Heartbreaker (Grand Funk Railroad)
  • Can’t You See (Marshall Tucker Band)

Periodical acoustic podcast: Mr. Jones by Counting Crows and Bedroom Of The Sun by me on acoustic

I was unable to record last week’s podcast, so I did two this week: Mr. Jones by the Counting Crows, and Bedroom of the Sun — an original of mine.  We (Town Crier) are playing Mr. Jones in one of our sets, and Phil Taylor suggested that I recorded Bedroom of the Sun.  Turns out, I think it’s the first recording I’ve made of Bedroom of the Sun since I first wrote it — it was a great trip back to my history, and I think it turned out fabulously.

I am recovering from a cold this week, so the vocals are even less perfect than usual, but I think they still have a great vibe.

Periodical acoustic podcast: Dixieland by Steve Earle on acoustic

I realized a few hours ago that Friday I will not be able to do my podcast as usual, so I’m doing it on Wednesday this week.  Another song we (Town Crier, my band) plan to play in one of our sets is Dixieland by Steve Earle, which is a great song about patriotism and just a fantastic story song, so that is what I chose for this week’s song.

Recordings from Town Crier 10-6-09 band practice now available

I’ve decided to try recording my band (Town Crier) each week at practice and publishing MP3s.

These will be temporary — once I get a new batch each week, I’ll remove the old ones.

At any rate, this week’s recordings are currently up at http://listapp.ciesurplus.com/jeremy_temp/ and include:

  • Boni Maroni
  • Running Down A Dream
  • Unsigned Letter
  • Have You Ever Seen The Rain
  • Hot Number
  • Angel Eyes
  • What If I Came Knockin
  • Just Got Paid
  • Mr. Jones
  • Foreverman

Keep in mind of course that they’re practice recordings — there are mistakes, and there is no editing.  It’s just a live recording.  The whole idea is just to have new music to listen to.  Enjoy!
