Weekly Podcast Episode 12 – Symphony Of Science “We Are All Connected”

That’s right!  I am a nerd … I COVERED the Symphony of Science 😀

So there’s a lot to mention this week.  First and foremost, I recorded this on my baritone guitar (Ibanez Mike Mushok MMM-1) which is electric, so I can no longer call the podcast the “Weekly Acoustic Podcast.”

Secondly, I actually recorded the video!  Yeah, aren’t I sexy?  🙂  So the upside is the podcast is a lot cooler.  The downside is the audio quality on my camera sucks, so I’ll have to work to improve that somehow over time.

Oh yeah, last, but not least, GO MOUNTAINEERS!

I hope you like this one … definitely my most creative selection to date, and I am particularly fond of it.  🙂  And if nothing else, check out the real Symphony of Science, because it is an awesome project.

Weekly Acoustic Podcast Episode 11 – “Alone” and “Love Song”

This week’s podcast consists of 2 similar songs — “Alone,” from my Triad album (which is one of my favorite songs lyrically because it reads like a poem), and “Love Song,” a cover of the song by my friend Phil Taylor.

Weekly Acoustic Podcast: Episode 5 – “Mr. Jones” and “Bedroom Of The Sun”

This week’s songs are “[wiki]Mr. Jones[/wiki]” (originally by the [wiki]Counting Crows[/wiki]), and “Bedroom of the Sun” by Me (on my album Triad).

The reason there are two songs this week is I decided to start doing one cover and one original each week.  I chose to do “Mr. Jones” because I sing it with Town Crier (it’s the last song in our first set), and “Bedroom Of The Sun” is just one of my favorites (it was also requested).

As usual, this is just me on my acoustic guitar, recorded at home in my studio on my Sony ICD-SX700 voice recorder.

Weekly Acoustic Podcast: Episode 1 – “I’ll Be”

As many of you know, I’ve recently started to build a bigger fan base (well, a noticeable fan base) through Facebook.  In that effort, I’ve decided to start uploading my podcasts to YouTube to make them easier to share.  So, I’ve decided to “rerun” the previous podcasts and rename (quite strikingly) the series as “Weekly Acoustic Podcast.”  (I know, catch your breath!)

Anyway, the process of rerunning should take 2-3 months, and after that I’ll begin uploading new material.

This week’s song is “I’ll Be,” originally performed by Edwin McCain in the 90s.  It is one that I sing with my band Town Crier.

My podcasts are recorded as just me on my acoustic guitar in my studio on my Sony ICD-SX700 voice recorder.  Enjoy!

Periodical acoustic podcast: “Alone” by me and “Love Song” by Phil Taylor/Unborn

My site has been down for about a week, so this is posting late, but here is this week’s podcast.

I chose to play “Alone” off my album “Triad,” and my friend Phil Taylor talked me into covering one of his songs.  I chose “Love Song” from his album “Tales of Love or the Lack Thereof” (recorded both by Phil and his former band Unborn).

I had a few moments of hitting the mic / other background noise on this.  I’m not sure why, but just in case you hear it and wonder.  😉

As usual, it’s me on my acoustic — no editing, recorded on a Sony ICD-SX700 voice recorder.

Periodical acoustic podcast: “All Along The Watchtower” (Bob Dylan/Jimi Hendrix) and “Pieces” by me

So I finally have returned to my promise of two podcasts a week.  🙂  Not sure how long I’ll be able to keep it up, but it is how it is.

The songs this week are “All Along The Watchtower,” written by Bob Dylan, perfected by Jimi Hendrix (Yet another song I happen to be singing for Town Crier), and “Pieces” off of my Two Sides Of The Same Soul album.

The usual — no editing, me on my acoustic, recorded on my Sony ICD-SX700 voice recorder.

Periodical acoustic podcast: “Endless Rain” by me

Happy Thanksgiving!  (for those who celebrate it)  🙂

This week’s podcast is another of my originals: “Endless Rain” off my album “Heaven.”

As usual: me on my acoustic, in my studio, no editing, recorded on Sony ICD-SX700, blah, blah, blah …

Periodical acoustic podcast: “Walls Of A Dream” by me

Even though I decided to do two songs per week moving forward, this week I’m only doing one as my schedule is a little hectic.

The song I did is one of my favorites that I wrote called “Walls of a Dream,” and it’s off my album “Heaven.”

And, as usual, this is just me on my acoustic, in my studio, recorded on my Sony ICD-SX700 digital voice recorder, no modifications other than trimming at the beginning and end.

Oh, be cautioned: There are large fluctuations in volume  😀

Periodical acoustic podcast: Live’s “Lightning Crashes” and New from me: “The Thirst”

I’ve recently decided to up the ante on my podcasts by recording two songs: an original of mine and a cover.

This week for the cover I chose Live’s “Lightning Crashes” because we are playing it as the last song in set 4 in Town Crier.  I can’t say I do the song justice, but I think it is OK.

The other song will excite my avid followers — a sneak peak at my upcoming album “The Threshold of Omniscience.”  That’s right — I have enjoyed my recording so much that I felt it was a good choice for the original.

And, as usual, this is just me on my acoustic, in my studio, recorded on my Sony ICD-SX700 digital voice recorder, no modifications other than trimming at the beginning and end.

After 3 years, could new music actually be coming?

After what has been, even for me, a long hiatus with no new music, hope may be alive for the small but dedicated constituency that follows my music.  🙂

As I have slowly worked myself back into playing music, forcing a regular schedule of it into my life with my band and with my podcasts, I’m trying to do a little more.  One of my goals for 2009 was to write and record a new album.

Seeing as how 2009 (and my 10th year playing guitar) is coming to a close, I have little time to do that album, and I had given up any realistic odds of it’s happening — until today.  Phil Taylor contacted me with a kind of “motivate each other” proposition, where we would simultaneously produce albums — kind of keep each other accountable.

Since this works right into my goal for the year, I told him our deadline would be January 1, 2010.

Now, there’s no way I will have time for full productions with drums and whatnot, so I am only pushing myself to write at least a dozen songs, and record them with me singing along with the guitar.  I may do more if I get motivated, but since I would prefer to master the album once it is complete, it’s unlikely.

Anyway, I’ve set up the project page on my website, and you can keep tabs on it here:  http://tharp.me/8
